Dashboard Workflow Updates

Create a Dashboard from the Sidebar

When you click the "+ New Dashboard" button in the Dashboard Sidebar, you'll now create a new Dashboard rather than a folder. This Dashboard will automatically be saved to your "My Dashboards" section.

Add Content Directly From Dashboard

Previously, content could only be added to Dashboards by first making or opening an existing report, and then adding it from the Report Activity. Now content can be added directly from new Dashboards. When a fresh Dashboard is created there's an "Add Content" section. This allows you to add Text, Images, Media, find existing Reports in Global Search, or jump directly to a Report type to build something new.

Finding your Favorites

You can now favorite (and unfavorite) Dashboards. This is done via the three dot menu to the left of the Dashboard title when you hover over its card. When you favorite a Dashboard it will appear in a new section called "Favorite Dashboards". This will be at the top of the Dashboard Sidebar.

Along with this you can also find your favorites directly by clicking the star in the top right corner. This will take you to your favorited items in Global Search.

Improved Dashboard Organization

Dashboards are now sorted into collapsible sections! They are as follows:

  • Favorite Dashboard section - This section is what users will see when they favorite a Dashboard for the first time. Dashboards are favorited via their new three dot menu on the right of their title card in the sidebar.

  • My Dashboards - This section is what users will see when they make their own Dashboard for the first time. This will allow them to see all of their Dashboards, published and unpublished.

  • Published Dashboards - This section is what all users will see by default. It contains all Dashboards that have been published by users.

Manage your Dashboards and Folders

When looking at the sidebar in the Dashboards activity, there are several new three dot menus:

  • Published Dashboards menu - This is now where users create Folders. Folder creation is only available in the Published Dashboards section.

  • Folder menu - This is where the user can find options to rename or delete a folder.

  • Dashboard menu - Users can Copy URL, Favorite/Unfavorite, Publish/Unpublish, Move, Duplicate, and Delete Dashboards. These actions are contingent on having the right User Permissions and being the owner of that Dashboard. If you don't have the right access to select an option, it will be grayed out.

Dashboard Permissions

Entity Permissions are now replacing Locked Dashboards. There are four Entities a user can see on a Dashboard.

  • Owner - The owner is the user who owns the Dashboard. By default this is the creator of the dashboard. The owner has full permission to edit the dashboard, delete it, manage permissions, and manage schedules.

  • Manager - A Manager can edit the dashboard, update user access permissions, and manage schedules like the owner, but can not delete the dashboard.

  • Editor - An Editor can edit the dashboard, but can not update user access, delete the dashboard, or manage schedules.

  • Viewer - A Viewer can view the Dashboard, refresh it, and add filters to it. By default all users are Viewers of a Dashboard.

These new Entities aid in collaboration and making sure that the right people have the right levels of access on each dashboard.

How to set Dashboard Permissions

When you've created a dashboard and want to collaborate with others on it you will:

  1. Click the people icon under the dashboard filter icon in the upper right hand corner of the dashboard.

  2. Search for the user(s) you'd like to allow permissions to modify the dashboard

  3. Click them and set their level of permissions as needed

  4. Click confirm

Admin Portal Permissions for Dashboards

There are new Permissions for actions on a Dashboard. There are now extra checks for being able to Move/Publish a Dashboard and Delete a Dashboard. Both of these were added to ensure that Dashboards can be properly maintained in the Published Dashboards section. These extra permissions are automatically added to Admins and Governors.
